The Process

How a morning breath check becomes a clinic alert

Each morning, RespiroScreen records airway acoustics, compares the result with the patient's baseline, and sends a graded alert to the clinic when the pattern changes.

Step 1: Breath Capture

A 90-second morning check on a smartphone

Each morning, the patient holds a smartphone near their mouth for 90 seconds. The guided app uses plain language and is designed for people who may not feel comfortable with technology. No wearable hardware or clinic visit is needed.

The recording captures acoustic features of breathing. Signals are encrypted and uploaded to UK-based processing infrastructure for analysis.

  • No wearable hardware needed
  • Runs on standard iOS and Android
  • Plain-language guided app
  • TLS 1.3 encrypted upload to UK processing
Step 2: Analysis

Compare each result with the patient's baseline

RespiroScreen develops an individual acoustic baseline during the first two weeks. The models then assess change from that personal reference, rather than relying only on thresholds drawn from a wider population.

Each result receives a RespiroScore from 0 to 100 and one of three alert tiers: Normal, Watch, or Critical. The assessment considers the developing pattern across readings, not just one result.

  • Individual baseline built over two weeks
  • Normal, Watch, and Critical alert tiers
  • Pattern-based assessment across readings
  • Graded results sent to the clinic
Step 3: Review Alerts

The highest-risk patients appear first

The clinical dashboard orders patients by alert severity, with the highest-risk cases at the top rather than sorting by name or alphabetically.

Patient Monitoring Dashboard 3 patients monitored

M. Singh COPD Stage II NORMAL 1h ago Review
Cycle

One daily monitoring cycle

01

Patient takes breath check

Each morning, the patient completes a guided 90-second recording on a smartphone. No wearable or clinic visit is needed.

02

Models assess airway sounds

Acoustic signal processing compares the new recording with the patient's personal baseline and identifies relevant change.

03

Clinic receives an alert

The dashboard presents the RespiroScore and alert tier, with higher-risk patients placed first for clinical review.
